The volcanic coast of Bali’s northern end- we had to drive for several hours to get here from the more touristy south, but it was worth the trip.

Dragonflies kept getting lost in our house and smashing themselves into windows.

One of the best meals I had in Malaysia was this Japanese restaurant placed upstairs in one of the city center’s older super malls- he chopped the meat and veg right in front of us, grilled it in large pats of buttery-looking lard (so now I know, that’s why shop bought teriyaki always tastes so much better than mine), sprinkled it with crispified garlic and served with a side of miso and rice. It was amazing and cost about two dollars. Wish I had one of these at home.

This was the view from my hotel window at the Mercure in Kuala Lumpur. It was an amazing stay. We got a club room so there was a whole lounge on our floor dedicated to constant snacks, drinks and WiFi! It really did make it that much harder to go home, without the cocktails on tap and cute little smoked salmon cups.
